Philadelphia

We drove up to Philadelphia Friday afternoon. Except for a 30 minute bathroom break the trip went really smoothly and fast. The hotel room was a suite with a separate bedroom and living area. It was the perfect place to play hide and seek. I helped Nyla find hiding places and one was so good that Bohdin got mad and gave up. When he finally found it due to Nyla's rustling he loved the spot and they kept playing there together.

 

Bohdin likes to bring his suitcase with him on trips. This time, Nyla wanted to bring a suitcase also. She packed two library books and a snack. I thought she looked pretty cute rolling it along behind Bohdin. She also wanted to take it when we left the room so we took it to get ice a few times.
 

Saturday's plan was to go to the Children's Museum. We have free admission there so it seemed like a fun idea. I wrote down the address to put in the GPS but the GPS didn't know that street so I had it search for the museum. When we arrived it was closed because it had moved to its new location. I had already fed a ton of change into the meter and didn't want to get back in the car again. We also didn't have too much time before Nyla would want a nap. I decided to go to the science museum across the street. They had some stuff outside that looked fun. It was a hit. The museum was awesome. We started out in the heart room. They have a giant replica of a heart complete with heart beat sound. Bohdin did not like how loud the sound was once we were inside so we had to turn back around. Bohdin did learn that he has about 4 cups of blood in him. They crawled through the blood vessel tunnels and played with various things around there. Bohdin staked out a prime location for the eye dissection. He watched attentivley for the most part the entire cow eye dissection. I don't think he learned much. I can't ask him right now because he's engrossed in a cartoon and eating tuna fish with crackers.

After the heart room we headed down to the train factory. There is a large steam locomotive on a short bit of track and various displays. We did some of the displays but we couldn't stay long. Nyla was getting tired and hungry. After 1.5 hours we had to leave. Nyla had a snack in the car and fell asleep. Bohdin and I just hung out and ate in the front seat while she slept. When she woke up Bohdin wanted to go into the hotel. We had to trasfer hotels. We just layed around the room. Bohdin watched some tv and played. We headed back to the museum after our rest. We went back to the train room and rode the train. Bohdin was the engineer. He had to pull some lever. We only moved a few feet but Bohdin was still delighted. His other favorite thing in the room was the electromagnet. He loved turning it on and off. That is something else he learned. We went through the space room to build rovers and move balls around an ellipse (that coin thing you can see in malls sometimes). We went to the sports room where Bohdin tested his reaction time, hit a racquetball, and spun around. They both tested how high they could jump. The machine works by extrapolating distance based on time in the air so I don't know if it's really accurate. Bohdin was 3.5 inches and Nyla's best was just over an inch. That was one of her favorite parts.
 

Our last room was about art and science. They had a ball Newton thing that was a large machine that moved balls around while doing various things. Nyla was so delighted she clapped. She also liked moving these balls around. The kids had a really fun time there. I wish every city had a museum like this. We never made it to the fun stuff we saw outside.
 

After the museum we picked up Buddy and had some dinner. The restaurant was full so we took it to go and ate it at a playground. The strong cold wind made it hard but the kids liked the playground. Afterward we went to our gelato place. Bohdin chose lime cilantro which was an interesting choice. He loved it and practically inhaled it.
